Wow! You live at an amazing place if this is in your backyard, Tim!
Very much enjoyed that little story.

Very much enjoyed that little story.

Bucky and the doe were about 5 meters from my back door. It is not unusual to have them come next to the house in search of acorns.

Monday, Retired Nifty (RN) was working in the garden when the local power company showed up to replace a rusty transformer behind our house. The transformer was first installed in 1973 and was at the end of its useful life.

RN, being an experienced sidewalk superintendent, grabbed a drink and sat back in an outdoor lounge chair to supervise. :p

They removed the old transformer and added a new composite crossbar with circuit breakers. The new crossbar separates the two power lines so they don't slap together in the wind. The wider separation also prevents birds with large wingspans from shorting out the two lines. Birds shorting out lines can sometimes cause a fire.

RN congratulated the crew, and himself, on a job well done.

This morning Bad Bucky returned, but the wild turkeys foiled his romantic plans.

It's not for lack of trying on their part. They are constantly in my garden this time of year chowing down on the Amaranth.
