apatchy Senior Member 545 posts Joined Mar 2006 Location: Walsall, West midlands uk More info | If you are talking about an egg in a nest some birds will lay an egg every morning and just cover them over until the clutch is almost complete before starting to incubate. This ensures that all the eggs hatch at more or less the same time. If they have started to incubate and then the egg is left to go cold then it will die. Hope this helps. Best regards Pete.
