jhoag Senior Member More info | Not from my experience. I prefer the non-IS 2.8 version over the IS (version 1) - it is sharper. I don't know about the new IS version 2 - haven't tried it. _______________

Am I missing something? John, I have to be honest with you. I've NEVER heard that said about the 70-200 f/2.8L If anything we've always said that the non-IS was sharper than the IS because there is less glass inside and it's less complicated. From what I hear, the new IS II has CAUGHT UP to the sharpness of the original Non-IS. -Abram-

From what I hear, the new IS II has CAUGHT UP to the sharpness of the original Non-IS. It's definitely an excellent lens and I've been using it for years. I never have and still don't feel a need to upgrade. IS is a crutch in my opinion. I've got on just fine without it ![]() I'm about to try to sell my 70-200 f/2.8 IS, I just haven't been real happy with it.

I mean sure I wish it was weather sealed (but then again my cameras aren't fully sealed since I don't have a 1D anymore). It's just a great super sharp lens. I'm pretty picky and always looking to find some kind of issue, but that is one lens that has never needed any kind of adjustment or repair or anything. It just works. Consistently. -Abram-

Marshal.F Senior Member 295 posts Joined Mar 2009 Location: Georgia More info | i finally broke down and bought myself a 70-200 f/2.8L. Its an awesome lens but so far the plan is to keep it for a month, and if i don't end up using it enough ill sell it and grab a 135 f/2.0L or maybe a tilt-shift lens, who knows yet. Any way here is a shot taken with my 70-200.
