What are owners views on the S80 especially in terms of responsiveness and image quality?

Previous digital compacts I have used have not been too impressive especially in terms of shutter lag and performance in anything other than bright sunlight.

I like the idea of the 28mm equivalent lens and the compact size, IS would be handy though.

I just ordered an S80, so bear with me until it arrives and I should have some comments on it. I've owned several Canon P&S cameras - S30, S1 IS, and G3. My main squeeze is a Rebel XT. I assume you've check the user comments on sites like www.dpreview.com (external link).

I've owned the S80 since Nov. '05. My last digital was a G3. I've owned various SLRs (film) and range finders over the last 30 years.
IMHO, the S80 is a great "photographers" choice. It's lens is very high quality although not really "fast" but it has an excellent focal length range: 28-100mm equivalent. If you haven't had the 28 mm option then you don't know how useful it is. Controls and processor are just as good as any DSLR. You cannot go wrong with this camera. 10 years ago if you could have imagined having the best camera you could own small enough to fit in your pocket it would have been a sci-fi story for most of us. The S80 is it and is affordable.
Happy shooting.
