Hello, I am new to the Forums. I have a Canon G6 and I need some help please. I have taken Photos with it and thought I did them in the RAW Format. When I try to take them off of the CF Card They show as IMG..I am not sure what this means. Is this another format? Also when I try to open them in PhotoShop CS they open as JPEG. I have a 1 gig CF Card and it is full but I am almost sure that some are not showing up. As there are only about 100 photos appearing. I have taken the pictures from the card with a card reader that uses Adobe Photo Downloader. I have not erased the card yet so I am hoping I can get the ones I took in RAW to show up on the computer so I can adjust them in CS. If someone can help me with this I really would appreciate it...Thanks, Nina

Dear Nina,

I think the G6 uses the suffix CRW for theRAW files, as does my G5.
If so, then you need to look for images that have the ending ".crw".

When you open a .crw file in PSCS, it should open in the Plug-in called Adobe Camera RAW (ACR). You should make sure that you have the latest version of that plug-in from Adobe's free download site, and that it is installed properly (I think the latest version of ACR for PSCS version 8.0 would be ACR version 2.4). If a version of ACR is installed properly, it will show up under Help->About Plug-in as Camera RAW.

I don't think any true RAW files will open as JPG in any program. There are other programs that will open the CRW files, such as the RAW Shooter Essentials, free from Pixmantec.

My G6 is set for RAW. Using ZB 5.0.0.142 (?) it DL the raw files as CRW_1234.CRW. Just for kicks I tried to open a CRW file in PSE3 and it did open the file. Soemwhere in the G6 manual it states that a RAW file also saves as a JPG within the RAW. Page 62 about the last line:"When a Raw image is recorded a JPG thumbnail will be created at the same time". Pages 62 and 63 in the G6 users manual will show you how to set RAW and create the JPG file size too. (I use L for the JPG thumbnail) I too use a 1 GB card and it holds approximately 122 RAW images but remember these are only estimates. The actual file size and JPG thumbnail setting will affect the number of images saved. And yes, IMG indicates a JPG image.

Sorry Robert, when I opened the RAW in PSE3 it did show as a CRW not a JPG. My mistake.
