i didn't post these in the macro forum as i took these with my 100-400mm lense :D anyone know what the heck this is?? it was HUGE!! must have been 1.5-2" in length maybe bigger,well for me to spot it in a field full of oilseed rape it must have been big..lol should i have been worried? would it have bitten,stung or had me for breakfast?? or is it just looking like something that would bite,sting or have me for breakfast ;) any help appreciated

All I can say is it's a good thing that you had the 100-400. Keep plenty of distance between yourself and a bug that big.

Awesome detail, levels, color -- but maybe in the case of this ugly bug it's Too Much Information? ;)

It looks to me like a member of the wasp family - possibly a hornet given the size - 2 inches is very big for an insect in the UK

Hornets are none too common in th UK but it's possible
