CAN SOMEBODY EXPLAIN SIZES PLEASE

I entered a competition the maximum width of photo had to be 600 or
100kb,when i sized my photo in photoshop to 600 wide,it was 108kb,so when i got my pic to 100kb,i got a PM saying the photo was too small at approx 385 wide ,i dont understand,why at 600 my photo wasnt 100kb

i did see your picture, and sadly you have removed it now, so I canot see what the measurements were... but when you are resizing make sure you resize it by pixels. i.e. 640pixels, as opposed to percent, or cm's, or inches etc...

i always save the smaller or edited version as a different name than the original so that I do not 'save over' the original picture. It is good to keep the original picture as it is like a 'digital negative' that you can always go back to and work on from scratch if your editing goes a bit worng : (( hence my tip to 'save as...' and with a different filename.

eg. your original file from the camera will be called something like:

IMG_7509.JPG

then after you have edited or resized you may want to call it:

IMG_7509_edited.JPG

...just an example : )

oh. also i have attached some screen shots, 1st one shows where the option is to select 'pixels' as oppsed to percent.

the second is a screen shot of the 'slider' for image quality, which ranges from 'small file' to 'large file' and this will determine the Output size of the image that you are about to save. Move the slider up and down, and as you move it, you will see the 'size' field at the bottom change. Make sure the size is below 100K, as this is the 'maximum' file size for attachments in this forum.
