Generally I hate the "tell me about a bag" requests....BUT...

I have just added the 100-400 (anbd am expecting a 70-200IS) to my lenses. Before, the longest I had was the 24-105. Camera is 5d w/o grip.

I prefer Domke bags, as they protect enough (for me) but are not overly padded like the Pillsbury doughboy. Unforunately, the 5D and 100-400 will not fit in the F-5X bag, which had been my favorite for "about town"...i.e. just one lens on-camera and maybe a small flash.

I would appreciate suggestions...

thanks....JOHN

What other lenses do you need to fit in it?

I highly recomend the Tamrac Expedition series. The 5 (5575) is probably enough for you.

I am covered if I want more stuff with Domke F-803 or F-3...even a F-2 and F-1.

It's smaller where I have "problem"....my small bag, the F-5x, which just held the 5D with 24-105......and maybe a small flash or (tight squeeze) 17-40, will not even fit the 5D with 100-400.

So, I need/want a solution....but, as i said, not "all bulked up" with padding. I do not need it....I am careful with my gear....

Thanks...but to big....and backpacking is not my "thing" nor what I need. Something makes me think that I may need to better describe "about town"....it does not mean a trek :) . It;s a light walk with camera, one lens....maybe a flash....stretching...maybe 1 alternative small-ish lens...like a 17-40.

Do you have an Army/Navy surplus store nearby? The one near me has an entire section of heavy canvas bags, all different sizes, from various branches of the armed services... US and other countries. I got a couple of great bags there for LOTS cheaper then the Domkes... and I think pretty comparable quality.
