As I understand it, one of the issues (false low battery warning) was fixed. However, the grip was poorly designed and still appears to suffer from the flex issue. I may be wrong about this, but the many reports have been enough to deter me from getting a grip.

This is true. My particular grip never gave me the flex problem, but then I never used it much because of the low battery issue. Canon fixed the low-battery for me, but I haven't bothered putting the grip back on - I'm just used to working without it now, and I like the slightly more space in my camera bag.

I'm not sure where mine is - I tried it once, got about 5 shots out of a set of AA's and gave up. Just use the BP511(s)

Sent it in to Canon as per the service notice (external link). Only needed to send in the grip; got it back in about 10 days. Grips after about last May supposedly have the fix already in place. If the AA holder has gold contacts, it's the "fixed" version.

I wonder about the flex issue and the problems that causes as well on the 20D. Has anyone tried an aftermarket manufacturer to see if they have the same problems as the Canon ones? I think I'd like to try a grip, but the already mentioned issues with the Canon one have prevented me from buying it so far. I just thought perhaps third-party ones might not have the same problems????

I've read alot of complaints about the fit and ergonomics of that BG, does anyone here have any complaints about it?

the grip is great for my 30D, the only problem i have with it is that the battery door moves ever so slightly when i press my hand against it and it bug the crap out of me, other than that i love it.

bg-e2 feels a little week with the 20D mounted to the 35-ev rotator bracket, I have to remember to use the bottom of the bracket to rotate the camera up as not to flex the grip too much, I'm sure it would self destruct if I used only the camera's grip to rotate the camera while the bg-e2 was mounted between the rotator and the camera.. The 20D BG-E2's main body needs to be made out of metal just like the camera, the part that sticks up into the contact area's could be plastic, to ease the electronic woes..

If it were already done this way you wouldn't be asking about "quality" or are there any complaints etc.. Would there be any dissatisfied customers if the bg-e2 was a metal part in the first place... I don't think so, but maybe some twit would have to say "it's too heavy"

I think I'm going to hold off on the grip for a while, partly because of the overall negative experiences with it but also, I just don't have any need for it.
