Kublai was a mixed Shepard/Chow/Who knows. He had spinal arthritis, which had slowed him down some, but recently he began having problems with incontinence. This past weekend he couldn't stand on his hind legs unassisted. The vet determined it was either a spinal tumor or Cushing's Disease, neither of which is easily diagnosed or treated, and gave him slim odds on recovering or surviving longer than 8 months if he did. He was put to sleep today. I haven't been able to put away his bed or food dish yet.

Kublai as a puppy: Pentax K1000, Tri-X. Spots are from poor storage of the print.

Very sad loss of one beautiful dog. I still find it hard to get over my Lady who was a bassett hound, killed by a motorcyclists 9 years ago.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear. It still stings a little when I think of my collie that had to be put down at 15 months. She had digestive problems that didn't allow her to retain any food or water. A happy puppy cut short. I feel your pain.

Thank you for your thoughts. I can still smell him in my room, and occasionally I'll hear something and look over thinking it's him. He's not the first dog I've lost, but it never really gets any easier.

I have to agree with you had to put my Golden Retriever "Kassie" in a kennels for a week while i went away on holiday and i missed her as much as i would of my 2 kids, i had to take my mother in laws German Sheperd to be put to sleep a few years ago it is not a nice experience to have to go through.

My thoughts and condolences are with you at this sad time KatmanDu R.I.P Kublai Khan

Sorry for your loss, only animal lovers really know how deep fellings can go for a beloved pet. One of the family I'm sure. Seeing the two pictures tugged on my heart strings a little. A fitting epitaph for the old boy.
Rest assured one day the feelings of loss will be replaced with fond memories.

I'm so sorry for yoru loss. I know how great an attachment to a pet can be. My boy is my baby as well. It's nice that you can have wonderful photos to remember him by.

I'm really sorry to hear about your dog. My dog was diagnosed with spinal arthritis back in December. So far it doesn't seem to have slown her down, but I know it's only a matter of time.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

I am so sorry for your loss. It never is easy when we lose a loved one and faithful companion -- whether it be 'human,' 'canine' or other.

My thoughts go out to you.
