Does anyone here refill their printer cartridges? If so what system do you use? Is it reliable? I'm thinking about doing some printing with my HP and was also thinking about refilling the cartridges after they are spent, which should be cheaper than buying more HP inks. Looking for others' opinion on the matter. Thanks!

I have a Lexmark Z52 printer and have tried refilling my b&w and color cartridges using kits purchased from WalMart. It seems that the cartridges work fine after about 2 refills and don't work properly after that.

A nearby OfficeMax had just installed a cartridge refill station that seems like a good deal (about $10-20) to refill your cartridge over a 20 min period. This may be an option for me.

I used to print photos at home. After hours of trying to get it to work right and using lots of expensive inkjet ink, I now use the nearby Fuji 1-hour minilab at Sam's Club and online at www.adorama.com (external link) (for those special prints). 8x10 prints are about $1.50-$2 on real photo paper that look great.

Bottom line -- I've heard many people had success doing it themselves while others (like me) are only partially successful.

I have an i9900 and tried it for a while, but lost a lot of vibrancy (profile prism says that the MIS ink I was using covered 7% of LAB color space, canon covers 12%). I've pretty much resigned to the expense of brand-name ink. I'll use my epson stylus 3000 with generic ink for "normal" color print jobs.

If you are using your printer to print photos I would stick to the Printer's Brand of ink. Companies like Canon, Epson & HP go to a lot of research to get their printers, inks and paper matched up for the best results.

I was refilling the cartridges on my Epson 820 Photo with the Universal system and it seems to work pretty good. Colors were good, and the refills got to be quite easy. I did change the supplied syringe for a real one, smaller but much better.

However, I do not print photos at home any longer. It's cheaper and easier to submit them to Costco and pick them up an hour later. Quality is much better too.

The continuous inking systems work fine and the print quality is exceptional. I have tried filling the cartridges by hand and they don't seem to last and the ink is of poor quality at least the ones I tried. Check this link out it's an Australian site but you'll get the idea www.ausmedia.com.au/epson_cis_system.htm (external link). A friend of mine has been printing with his Epson using genuire pigment inks. After seeing the print quality on the Canon i9950 (i9900) he is now investigating getting the CIS.

Good luck.
