Probably.

But then again, I bet from 56-85 it will beat the others hands down. ;)

only from 71-85; from 56-70, the sigma 17-70 has it beat by a mile;)

Can anyone donate their 18-55 lens to jojo? Send it to him! Lets see how the kit lens stacks up against the new ef-s!

Yes, great idea ... is it really worth the upgrade for so many kit owners?

I can easily get the 1855 kit lens (might be able to find one in our local dumpster :p even ); but seriously, as much as I'd like to include it, each lens takes that much more time and effort. it's just a lens i'd rather pass on. what i can do later on, maybe a few weeks after the dust settles from this 4-lens test, i'll post comparisons between the kit and the new 1755IS. one of the nuisances of "slower" lenses (including the 1785IS) when doing tests against faster lenses is that they really make things more time-consuming, if you're going to do it right. matching aperture for aperture isn't as simple. anyway, maybe i'll just do a separate "EFS" shootout (1855, 1785, 1755) later on. but for now, i want to focus on doing a good job bw the 1740L, 1850EX, 1755IS, and 1785IS. thanks for the suggestion though. you're not the first to inquire.
