As I was leaving the house to run some errands I saw this little one walking into some brush on very shaky legs. A little later I went back and looked around and found him in about 5 minutes in some moderately heavy brush. The picture is not as sharp as it could be because it was pretty well shaded and I was working quickly to disturb him as little as possible and staying several yards away. This one must be only a few days old; it is early in the birthing season and he is only about the size of a cat. I thought it was a lucky find, though.

SO CUTE! Keep an eye on him though, if you're able. Don't get close enough that you either scare him away, or cause him to lose his fear of humans, but sometimes the babies will wander away from the mother. This has happened a few times in a friends backyard (he lives on several acres), and sometimes if the mother has been lost or killed, a different new mother will adopt the little one as her own... However, I have seen a few deaths as a result of this, and at only a few days old, this baby should not be left on his own.

Absolutely adorable picture though, and a lucky find indeed... for both of you!

We live in the middle of the woods and there are deer everywhere (I had seven feeding on a downed tree in my backyard the other day) I am sure this one's mother was feeding nearby while he lay perfectly still between nursing sessions. That's why I just zippped in, took a few quick pics, and left. Thanks for the compliment.

Wow, that is adorable. I recall having a stuffed animal just like that ( same position) when I was younger.

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade. -Yeats

It is definitely birthing time here; I just saw a baby opossum crossing a trail in my backyard; didn't have the camera, though, and they aren't inclined to stay in one place. Also, there have been a ton of turtles from the nearby river coming up to lay eggs, so I might be able to capture that sometime soon.
