I went back this evening and tried a few more captures of these beautiful flowers.

What do you think?

they are nice shots except for the blownout whites. I am no expert, so can't help on what to do there, except maybe a polariser or something to difuse the light more evenly??

I agree about the whites, maybe a bit of underexpossure would help, shoot raw maybe?
Also, they don`t seem to be crispy enough, missfocus maybe?

Thanks for the feedback. I did shoot these in raw (as I do everything). I tried to bring the whites back, but this is the best I could do. I'm not very skilled with PP yet.

I'm not sure why the second one is OOF. I'm thinking maybe the wind blew it a bit after I focused. I shot this with my Tamron 28-75 which is usually dead on with the focus.

Thanks for taking the time to comment everyone.

I like the first one, very nice DOF. I too am a newbie in PS but I had a try to bring back the whites and here is the result. I think I may have overdone it a little but let me know what you think.

Dimitri -- OMG, that picture is superb! I'm guessing we have operator error here!! (me).

Let me play around with it some more and I'll see what I can come up with. I'd like to send the file to you as well to get a good comparison.

asfd, thanks for your effort. I really like it a lot better than mine. I definitely have a lot to learn. Can you share your process?

It really is quick and easy actually. I only selected the overexposed (IMO)part of the flower with the magic wand (tolerance 32, contiguous area, single click in the white area) and then I made a litle adjustment with curves (Image, Adjustment, Curves). I just changed the main curve from a straight 45 degree line to a little concave curve. Ask if you want more details!
