This Vixen visits our shooting range every night.

It is semi-tame and will gently take food from your hand.

Shot (photographed)! with a 70-200f2.8Lis at 200mm and a 1DSmkII.

1/125sec @ f5.6 - manual mode - asa 200 - flash

Lovely shot Scuff, it must be very special to be able to get this close to a wild fox. Hope it's friendliness doesn't get it in trouble though.

Absolutely right, there's nothing quite like interacting with wild creatures.

She lives away from habitation in the many acres of woodland at the back of the shooting range. There is a very strict policy at Bisley about harming any birds or animals on the ranges, so she is probably as safe there as anywhere.

We have seen a male fox nearby and are hoping that a litter of cubs will be brought along to visit sometime in the future.

A few years ago whilst studying for my City & Guilds I was trying to make myself familiar with some local foxes and went down regularly to feed them. Obviously I wasn't the first, as they were fine with my company and a couple would take food out of my hand. What amazed me was how gentle they were, I was expecting them to snatch it and run, but they were far more gentle than any domesticated cat or dog that I've known.

It was just a fantastic experience. Unfortunately less than a year later, they built a car park on the ground, and I've no idea what happened to the foxes.

PS Lovely shot, by the way
