I had the same with a 2x and the 120-300 btw. Good results are attainable but pre focusing is a deffo.

In reality, the story of MG as a great independent motoring marque is something of a myth. It stared off life in 1922 as “Morris Garages” with the octagonal badge being stuck on dropped Morris Cowleys. In 1935 it was sold to Morris Motors and the MG badge was getting slapped on Morris Oxfords and 1300s. British Leyland took over Morris and used the badge on Metros, Maestros and Montegos all during the 1980s. It’s fairly easy to argue that putting the MG badge on Rover saloons is actually as much in keeping with MG tradition as building “custom” sports cars is.

On the 20D debate, the only reason to not get good, sharp motorsport pictures out of an EOS 20D is lack of talent. The camera is perfectly capable.

These are nice shots, Geoff - good work. I particularly like the touring car shots at Lodge.

Great shots, that 120-300 is a killer with whatever you add to it it seems! I like the Alfa with the dust thrown up personally, but am a bit disappointed you didn't hang around for the 'contest' ;)

Not at all. What it does mean is that after a certain point, the camera becomes less important than the photographer. The 20D (and the previous 10D) have all the features necessary to take good motorsports photos. If someone can't take a good motorsport photo with one of them, then blame the operator not the equipment.

A 1 Series body does make life easier though ;)

Great shots Geoff. Impressed with the way the 120-300 handles the 2X convertor. Especially like the BMW shot.

Cheers,

Cheers Simon (and most of the rest of you ;) )

As i said the shots with the convertor have had a bit of work, but that's limited to an extra round of sharpening in Photoshop on top of my normal Breezebrowser settings. I'm actually quite impressed with how it works with that lens.

I suspect that when i've had more chance to practice with it things will get even better.

Cheers

To be honest the "contest" wasn't quite what you may be thinking. The girls just put t-shirts on over their grid outfits ;)
