So I had a 125 dollar credit to spend a B&H (long story), so I ordered a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (79.99)
Based on my current two lenses and my desire to have a lens that will give me better indoor shots and the ability to really reduce dof. Based on all my reading the perfect lens for this will have to come later(Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM), but I am hoping in the interim this will fill one of the two gaps we seem to have (the other being something in the 17-25 range).
So I know this is not a lot of $$ to have out there but, hey I almost spent that 125 on the wrong flash if i had not asked you all for input.

Tell me this will work well for me:) (looking for validation, what can I say)

This will be a great lens to add to your bag. While not built the best, it does deliver very sharp images. Being this your first prime, you will be amazed at what a fast aperature lens will do for you. Just remember, f/1.8 has a very small DOF. It takes practice, practice, practice to get what you want in focus, and leave the rest blurred.

It's a great lens. I have both the FD and EF mounts of the 50mm, and really like them.

I'm not sure you could buy any new EF-fit lens for the money, actually!
But it's a really nice little lens, and will give you an appreciation of the sharpness of a prime lens and a very wide maximum aperture to play with!
Enjoy!
