For a beginning wedding photogapher without any money to pay for advertising, what are the most effetive ways to advertise? I hand out business cards when i can. I left some with the establishment that was the venue for my first wedding i have done so far. I have my website listed on my cities website under photographers. I am going to go around and visit some floral shops, tux/dress shops, and limo services to leave some flyers/brochures/cards and see if they will post them or hand them out for me. are these effective? any other good ideas? thanks ahead of time for all feedback!

try google adwords: https://adwords.google.com …&subid=US-ET-ADS&hl=en_US (external link)

It's pretty cheap and totally manageable, in terms of pausing your ad campaign whenever you like. Hope this helps.

Church bulletins might also be a good place, or post flyers on church bulletin boards.

i have thought about doing this. who would be the appropriate party to approach at the universities for getting flyers posted?

just call their main board and ask. usually they need to be stamped by someone as approved. then just plaster them everywhere.

or find out if they have a newspaper or website that you can do

i'll check into that asap. i have a lot of private universities around me also including Notre Dame, Saint Mary's, Holy Cross, and Bethel College. There are also a couple decently sized public universities in the area.
