I'll be buying a new dslr shortly, and putting my 10D to rest. I'd like to keep it, but not sure if there is a "best" way to store it. Any ideas on that? Put it in bubble wrap in a dry place?

Please advise, and thanks.....

When not in use keep it in a well-padded camera bag in a dry place. Buy some cheap silica packets on eBay and add a couple to the bag and one in every lens pouch. Change them once every couple of months or so.

If you plan on putting it away and not using it, take the battery out and store it in a dry place like you have suggested.

Personally though, I would take it with you as a backup to your new camera. The 10D is still more than capable of capturing great shots. Putting it away and not using it seems like a waste to me.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Remove BOTH batteries and enclose in a Ziploc bag with a packet of silica gel. Keep someplace cool/shaded.

use it or lose it. no need in hanging onto something that you dont' plan to use unless you're a collector in my opinion. you could sell it and get more glass if you're in need.

The worse thing that you can do to any electronic device is to not use it.

Thanks for all the replies. Actually, I was kind of thinking of hanging on to it so that I may give it to my nephew in a couple of years. That is why I was curious about the storage.

KEEP IT!!!!. Just on the off chance the new one ends up in the shop (or otherwise out of commission) you still have a back up to play with.

Agreed. If you don't want/need to carry a backup then sell it.

Your nephew can have the "new" one... You did say it was going to be a couple years - right? :D

Technology such as that in cameras and computers becomes obsolete so fast... That's not to say the item becomes useless (more so PCs than cameras) - the camera will still take the same wonderful shots it does today. But if you do plan to keep it around for a while in storage you're probably better off selling it. If you have any inclination of selling it at some point, better to do so now while it still has the maximum resale value.
