S2 IS or S3 IS?

Should I spend the extra $'s for the S3? Is there a compelling reason to?

I'm going to be switching from "Serious Hobbyist", and selling my current gear, to "Someone who has a decent camera". (Either the S2 or S3)

Any information/suggestions on these 2 cameras, would be a big help.

Thanks!

I would recommend you go with the S2 IS, cheaper and I do not think you can justfy the $ difference stepping up to the S3. I have the S2 and it is very capable for my needs (just getting into photography). I can post pics if need be. I guess there are a few upgrades so it just depends on how you value those upgrades, live histogram (I believe), etc.

but he is asking for S2 or S3 though...

If you have the thinking that "new" is always good and better, go for S3. If it doesn't matter, go for S2.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I'm thinking of simplifying at this point. I'm not 100% convinced, but close to 90%. My current abilities(or lack thereof), and the amount of free time I don't have, really make me think I have more camera than I can handle.

I think maybe the S2 might be a decent option.

Thanks again.

Sorry. I read the forum descriptions, and neither mention the S2 or S3's.

I assumed this forum's description meant any PowerShot. Sorry again.

I have a 350D and also keep a Panasonic FZ7, which is on a par with an S2/3 IS, in my car all the time. I use it for business and for those times a good shot presents itself. There is no comparison in quality between an FZ7 and a 350D. None. The dslr leaves the superzoom for dead, period. Think carefully before you downgrade.

Panasonic TZ5 ;Canon IXUS 850; (Canon 400D, 17-85IS; 75-300; bag; filters and all that stuff given to my very clever daughter for passing her exams!)

so I over did it. It seems more and more s1/2/3IS questions are being posted here, but this forum isn't for them, and the people with them may not browse this forum.

Yes strangely enough, quite a few members seem to "overdo it".If someone posts in a forum which isn't appropriate then kindly(and its seems in quite a few forums I use that term very loosely) point them in the right direction.
As far as point and shoots go,some of them do quite well, say up to a 8x10 size.I've actually compared shots on a Olympus 750Z to my 20D and the Olympus shots hold up quite well.
DSLR's are great ,but who wants to leave them in a car or carry them all the time.In these cases its better to have a compact then having nothing at all, especially for that once in a lifetime shot!
