I went out to Firebird Raceway's East course this Saturday with the Scottsdale Exotic Car Club, got to ride around in the silver SL55AMG, and it was overall a blast! C&C welcome...

overall nice pictures, but some look a little dark, possibly due to the harsh light?

Yeah they start off great but start getting darker and then the whole set is underexposed. Shame coz your techniquie and capture is spot on. Worth photoshopping ?

I don't know why they are underexposed, I was shooting at 1/80th with a fairly low # aperture... I didn't have a polarizer on and was probably metering off of the brightest part of the car... The sun couldn't have been any stronger that day.

thats why then

the camera thinks the bit it is metering off is of average brightness, so it adjusts the exposure from that. if that bit is over bright (like a headlamp) then it will darken the rest of the photo

i dont think its a metering problem. the first few pictures show the camera metered fine under the high contrast situations. i downloaded one of your images and its really underexposed and there wasn't any bright highlight to throw off the metering.

one of your ferrari shots you were at ISO100, F11, 1/200.

i think while scrolling the wheel, you may have pushed the A/V button and set the metering to underexpose. it seems like all the pictures are equally underexposed. if it were a "brightspot" metering issue, the underexposure wouldn't be so consistent.

great pics though! keep it up.

the headlamp thing was just an example to explain what i was saying, there obvisouly wasnt any headlamps in the photos :) .. but what you say makes sense too

what setting did you have the metering set to, mr f40?
