I have been told it is over exposed (the original) so I figured it was a good time to play around with layering and this nifty trick :)

There are like 3-4 different ways to get this effect. One is using a desaturated layer and erasing color layer till u get what u want. Thats prolly what he did above.

Better meathods including creating a layer mask, or using the mask tool and "painting" the desaturation. Even after that was done, you can use tools such as selective color and replace color to create / finish up work to give it very clean edges.

After that, hut/sat tools can be used to change the color of the object.

Its pretty simple once you get used to it.

I had no idea how to do it, but my partner was very excited as he knew how.

He took the original picture and pasted it as a new image, gray scaled it, then copy and pasted it back as a layer. I then erased the b&w layer by hand
