I made these shots while on holidays recently on the south coast of Western Australia.
I was climbing over rocks and noticed this guy. I set up my tripod and waited quietly. Here are a couple of the best after waiting at least half an hour for the crab to get comfortable with me being there.

100-400L IS @ 400mm f9 1/400sec ISO200

Wow! A purple crab? They have EVERYTHING Down Under...He looks small, I wonder ow they compare to Chesapeake Crabs, size/eatin' wise?

Only 50mm (2 inches in your money) body size. I don't think he is worth eating. Not familiar with the Chesapeake crabs that you mentioed.

What a lovely coloured crab. Very nice photos. I like crabs - they look like they were built to do battle.

great shots, i noticed some of the background also looks purple, maybe this is its food source which in turn has given it this unusual colouring
