What finished prints to you have for the clients, do you use Gloss finish or Matt finish, or do you use another type of medium, such as DVD or CD or another format finish?

I use a matt finish particularly for the classic albums.

matte paper is so bland for people. weddings really need the extra pop of a gloss, and I prefer Ilfords Gallerie smooth pearl, its somewhere inbetween a luster and a semi gloss

I use matte paper mostly, I much prefer it to glossy, as most people get glossy paper all the time so matte looks a little different to them. I use the platinum/metalic paper for some shots too. I also supply photos on DVD as a slide show, and people can buy the negatives on CD if they want to.

I use matte - you know why? Glossy get's fingerprints CONSTANTLY on them - not from just you being very careful but from clients and it just makes them look horrible after 2 years time. So i prefer matte - easier to work with, may not look as good as glossy (Glossy i love the end product) but at least you dont get scabby marks ALL over them.... All the photographer's i am involved with use matte purely for this reason.

Del

PS: Its a personal preference at the end of the day!

I have yet to really see a professional album on matte paper that looked good, but thats personal preference. the lack of vibracy and pop just doeesn't outweigh the benefits of it for people or especially weddings.

To me, glossy works well with architectural photos. I prefer matte and lustre for weddings because of the glare that comes with glossy photos.

thats why I use a luster or semi gloss, you only get one small highlight from the light rather than a huge one, but still gives you the pop and it gives some tooth to the paper

Glare especially when you frame them with glass ASWELL...i agree glossy looks so much better but for me the benefits of the matte are just prefered IMO - i tell my clients what i go with but they can have glossy for sure - its no big deal! But i do tell them about the fingerpritns and glare then they decide matte.

ok lustre and semi gloss could work well yes, but i definately wouldn't use them for proof books - as they are a bit more pricey. For enlargements definately!

Lustre is what I choose at my pro lab, matte at other labs. Often they use lustre and call it matt.

I use both Gloss and Matt for finished prints. I do a print on both mediums and asked the clients which they prefer, most chose Matt. I then send them off to a printing Lab for printing.
I have never tried Lustre as they tend to be a little expensive.
