noticed this little one on his way back to the water this morning. He seems to have a little chip on the side of his shell - possible inflicted by a hungry bird? I put him next to the water, and he crawled in and swam away. He was about the size of a quarter.

Good shot of the closeness of this very tiny creature. You can easily see the colours of this turtle and I'm glad you assisted it to get into the sea.

I wondered that myself, and realized I have no idea how fresh-water turtles are born. Do they hatch from eggs, and if so, why do we never see the nests?
Something to investigate.
