Are these press-on LCD display protectors a waste of money? Is there some sort of film or protection overlay already on the display?

With a LCD protector you will effectively avoid that

Sep 17, 2003 14:16 | #3 Yeah, my nose (which ain't all that big) smears all over it. I can imagine what will happen if I'm shooting while having a cold. Anyway, I'm wanting to buy the eyepiece extender (EP-EX15), except they seem to be out of stock on them all over town--and this town is LA where there's usually plenty of photo stuff in stock almost everywhere. The eyepiece extender moves your face away from the camera 5/8" which ought to get my nose off the LCD-- I don't know about others' noses. As a bonus, the eyepiece extender also magnifies .5x. By the way, everyone selling these extenders on ebay are getting about twice their retail... don't ask me why. then you add shipping and you're paying almost three times the $16.99 (U.S.) retail price I've been quoted at the local camera store. Go figure.

These LCD sheets claim a "temporary adhesive" but usually also instruct you to replace them every month or so. If you get cheap or forgetful and leave one on for a very long time, they sometimes become very hard to get off.
