... or "why I love my local camera store..."
Walked in with a LNIB Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro I've used twice, and a tired old Tamron 19-35 3.5~56, $100 later I walked out with a brand new 17-40L!

Congrats! I have the Tamron 19-35 and it's a fine lens for the money, but the 100mm 2.8 is a great lens woth almost $500. Needed a wide angle? You are lucky they let you have the 17-40L for that trade. I just got mine a month ago and I am totally happy with it. Take some pictures and post!

The 17-40L is a great lens, it sits on my camera just about all the time, and I am totally happy with it.
but I would not have parted with the macro lens - it's probably going to be my next purchase when my credit cards have stopped bleeding....
Though I'm thinking of getting some extension tubes first - less hazardous to my bank balance and yet will still give me a zing of aquisitional joy!

Congrats on the new lens. I went the other direction. I just received my 100mm f/2.8 macro today. I have not taken it out of the box yet, though. I am afraid of what my wife is going to say. :)

Thanks guys!
Yea, I would have liked to hang on to both... I'm one of those folks that gets emotionally attached to gear... but...
I really liked the 19-35 Tammy, it still had great IQ but the AF was really struggling lately, and the zoom was getting "rough" feeling. Shop guy told me it probably wasn't worth even sending in to be checked. It was my first EOS mount lens, we took some fun shots together, made a lot of cash together. It was tough walking away from the counter with it sitting there. But I figure it will be someone elses first now, and I hope they get something out of it.

The 100mm macro was only a couple months old. I bought it as a "hobby" lens, hence it had only been on one of my cameras maybe twice in the last couple months. Been working alot lately, no time for hobbies, and macro seems to be a whole 'nuther world!

Most of my paying gigs are corporate events where you are at one extreme or the other, groups and awards, and outdoor "team building" activities. I start a week long gig out of town starting monday, so I decided it was time to upgrade to a more reliable wide.

Yep! Good eye!
They bought me two of the 23" Cinemas at work for my HP xw8200 and I fell in love! I talked them into my need for another at home to work on images and video editing and have everyting match. Not sure I would have forked the money myself, but wow these are veeeeery nice.

Just as I got to this message, my wife walked in from walking the dog and said, "I am going to open that box that you do not want anyone to open and find out what is in it".

:(

I bought my 17-40L for a wedding I had scheduled because the 24-70L is not wide enough for large groups. I used my 19-35 Tammy for so long, but the 17-40L blows it away in color and sharpness. It's truly an improvement for me.

My wife has not killed me for getting the 100mm f/2.8 macro yet. Well, she doesn't really know yet. I did not open the box until Saturday morning.

I did send her a very sharp photo of our son that I took in the middle of the day. She really loved that.
