setting off a 580 manually

hi all

how do i set off a 580 manually i.e. without any input from the camera.

i'm not looking to use wireless inputs either.i just want to set it off by hand.

on the 550 you can just hit the ready light button and it will pop

if its on the camera hitting the depth of field preview button on the camera creates a surprising result :)

the ready light on the 580 does the same. it sends out a strobe like effect. i have a 540 which does the same as the 550 so i'll use that. thanks for the quick reply.

On the 580 there are two CFn to determine what the function of the 'test' button on the flash should be: full power, 1/32 or modelling light
