This is from my first solo wedding, very informal small gathering.

The rings have to be shot at some stage and I tried a number of angles - this one seemed to work best.

Any general tips when doing the ring shots?

nice feal and layout. I would have shot it at a wider aperature to make sure the background went totally out of focus just to help keep the attention on the foreground

Ding Ding Ding....
Coreypolis got it. Same comment here but overall it's still a nice image. I enjoy the reflections of the rings in the leather book.... I presume it's a leather book. : )

BTW... I'm doing a ring shot tomorrow at a wedding that's going to be off the hinges!! The B&G made some cool signs that are engraved out of old fence board and as soon as they told me what they had made an idea came to my head....I saw the signs tonight at reherseal and was like, "oh yeah, doing the shot!" I will post it tomorrow night.

Well, now we know why you didn't have more bokah..... F7.1
You could've shot this at 2.8 (depending on your lens) and probobly 60th sec. or higher

Like I said before it's still a nice image. Bible even makes it nicer...

I went for a higher F stop to get everything in focus, thinking maybe the background isnt so busy in this shot. However, I agree it looks better if the background is oof.

What do ppl here think about keeping selective colours in a B&W picture? I have seen a trend where the rings remain in colour and the rest B&W. Is this becoming a bit of a cliche? Brides do seem to like it though.

Here is an example from my first wedding as willingly unpaid 2nd photographer. Comments on composition etc more than welcome here please.

I'm not to keen on the idea much anymore and yes, I think a lot of photog's do it way to much. I might do ONE per wedding and that's only if the image is really calling out to me to do it.

The image you are using as an example is the type that wouldn't phase me....however..... every single photographer on this site has hers/his own unique style (pretty much) and we all bounce off each other so if the image works for you AND your client then great!! Good job.... I think the BW could still use some punch though.

Nicely done - gorgeous resolution and sparkle on the rings. The fact that the modest depth of field covers the rings and rose is just fine by me.

the first ring shot is beautiful. great composition, and the reflection of the rings onto the album is a nice touch!
