How many of you put your signature and/or contact information somewhere in your wedding books? It doesn't seem like a very tasteful thing to do, but I've seen it recommended and thought I'd see if anyone else does it?

No experience in wedding stuff, but If I do an album for someone (and it happens) I usually place my contact info in a very small font in the inside of the back cover, very small and discrete, but its there.

Every one of my finished wedding albums as well as proof books has my company name. This is your stock in trade, and an excellent way to advertise your services in a low key sort of way. It is also a convenient bit of address/phone info if the B&G need to contact you in the future for reprints, or a wedding referral.

That being said, it's important not to be garrish in the way you do this. On a finished album my business imprint is bottom center, inside, front cover, in a modest script type - no logo. On a small album I have the imprinter set a smaller sized type, the reverse is true on a larger album. I do want my name out there, but I want it to be tasteful and not a distraction from the photos.

I put my name in a script font on the bottom of the front page, small, not distracting.

Proof books are one thing, but wedding albums are another. I don't know. Part of me thinks, "yeah, why not put my name in the corner somewhere." ...but the other part says, "the album should speak for itself and if someone likes it they will ask the bride who the photographer was." hmmm.

I see no problem with it in an album- what happens in 1 or 2 years someone sees the album, but they can't remember your name...hmmm - I see it in albums all the time.
But everyone must decide for themselves.

I don't know. I haven't done that many weddings, but I can't imagine the brides I've worked with forgetting my name. They've got a copy of my contract, they've got our emails and likely my website (proofs) bookmarked. I clearly remember my wedding photographers name and I've been married for 7 1/2 years now. I don't know. I'm not saying one way is better than the other and I'm certainly not trying to knock anyone who does put their name in albums...I'm just thinking out-loud, trying to make up my own mind.

First post for me so hi :D

Signatures?...... If I commisioned an artist for a painting, I would EXPECT a signature. i think the same is true here if you're proud of your work (there's also the commercial side too).

Welcome AVANTONE - judging my your avatar you seem to have started photography at a rather young age  .

I also agree that original ART is to be signed. We are proud of the books we produce, each one is a unique creation and should have our signatures. You just want to make sure that the imprint doesn't draw your eye away from the work itself. - Stu

Hi Stu, Yeah I wish :D she's my youngest - I agree, you must have a credit somewhere as long as it's subtle.

I think this is a good point. Its easy to forget (at least for me) that photography and album creation an original creation or an art. In that regard, I suppose it should be signed, discretely of course.

I would be interested in seeing some examples of your signatures in books. I never wrote my signature in anyone, and I'm thinking on printing it on my next book, but I'm very unsure on the type/size to use, and where to put them. Looking to a couple of examples may open my mind...

Thanks Tim, I also got that one, I'll try on my next album. Also I have another related question. On your "Album critique" what's the font you're using on the 1st page? It looks like the Byron family, but I'm not sure which one...
