If you make them bright or reflective such as the lacquer coating on the carbon fiber ones, doesn't that introduce extra light from the reflections?
That's why I thought hoods were black and had felt on the inside, to prevent extra light from coming in and interfering with the metering?

LOL, this reminds me of the late 90's when casemods were starting to get really popular. People would mod ANYTHING just for the sake of modding it. I can't decide if this is lame or cool. ;)

If the inside of the hood is reflective, then it would bounce light from the hood into the front element that a black hood would absorb.

The whole purpose of a lens hood is to prevent stray light entering the lens. So the inside is a non-reflective material like felt. But AFAIK, you can do with the outside what you want.

Not that I want burning flames on the lens hood of my lenses... they already get enough attention without this. A coating to make them LESS visible, now that's something I would pay for! :)

Wouldn't put anything like that on my lens, but it does look a little bit more unusual than the plain vanilla hoods ;)

It does appear to be very well executed though, very nice paint job.

Greetings,
I love the carbon fibre look. It should look good with my white lens. Enjoy...

...hhhmmmm - makes me want to go right out and paint flames on my station wagon's fenders

Actually I like Peter's idea of some sort of "stealth" coating. Some of these hoods are intrusive looking enough at a wedding. - Stu

Excellent point - especially when trying to do surreptitious "street shooting."

I thought that I was the only one to do this. I must admit, his looks better, but it would look better on a Canon. :)
