I got my 1d mkIIn used, but was given the original sales receipt along with it. The camera is still within the 1 year manufacturer warrantly period. I can use the original sales receipt as proof of purchase even though I'm not the original buyer and my name is nowhere on the receipt correct? Sorry. Just never had any warranty work done in a situation like this before. Thanks.

Canon might let it slide but legally they don't have to...warranties are non-transferrable. Being a 1 series though might change things. Check the warranty card, it should say.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

I don´t share that. I work for a multinational company and here in the EU the WARRANTY are covering the "object" against any manufacturating defect since the date of purchase for the time period stablished (6 months, 1 year, 2 years,....) independently of the owner and always in the case that the object is in good conditions (no demage by hit, bad use, abuse. etc). You need the probe of purchase, just invoice/warranty card + date + shop stamp. (IF OTHERWISE IS NOT STATED)

Warranties cover the object itself, not the owners. The Warranty is the contract that stablish you received a correct working device for the money you have paid for. The change of owner generally not voids the warranty while you do not manipulate or make a bad use the object.

Normally nobody check for your ID when you send the item to repair, because in the case that the previous owner has register the item (mainly for comercial/marketing reasons), the dealer has not access to that info. And in the case you go directly to the Brand Tech service, as far as I know is the same thing, unless the item is damage for a bad use or broken for a hit, they must service it free of charge during the warranty period if it´s a factory defect, independently of the owner.

Cheers
Juan

That makes sense. Cool. Thanks.

Update: I registered the 1d mkIIn on-line and just got a really cool warranty information packet plus a $100 voucher for any out-of-warranty work should a problem arise. I guess that answers my question. ;)
