Yesterday I had an unusual problem with my 20D. The camera was on manual, manual focus, remote switch installed. The camera was locked in the check exposure mode, as if the shutter button was held in the first position. I don't know if this happened when I first turned the camera on or after taking the first picture. I turned the camera on, set the sutter speed and f-stop, and took the first picture. That is when I noticed the camera was locked or frozen in the check exposure mode. I tried removing the battery, CF card, cycling the camera on/off, and removed the remote switch. I sanpped a few pictures with both the remote switch and the camera button, without any change. Since it seemed to be taking pictures, I went ahead and took the pictures I wanted.

After getting home, all f the pictures were okay. I continued to try to correct the problem. The only button that worked was the AF Point Selection button. And then the camera started working properly again.

This is the first time anything unusal has occurred. Any suggestions or advice would appreciated.

In advance, thanks.

Jeff

I hadn't thought of that. I know that I am one version behind but the "fixs" for the new version were in areas different than I shoot. I have downloaded the most recent version but haven't installed it yet. I'll do it tonight, it can't hurt. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is the first time this has happened. I was wondering if I had pushed two buttons at the same time by accident when I was attaching the camera to the tripod.

Thanks,
Jeff

Did you try removing and reinstalling the battery? That will sometimes clear glitches that just cycling the on/off swith won't clear.

I removed the battery, turned the switch on, and pressed the shutter button a few times to kill any residual charge.

Thanks,
Jeff
