This was mid-morning, about 9am I would guess. And this shot was taken with my Sigma 17-70 on my 30D.

Yes exactly, plus there are some thin wire cables going between the main branches to hold it together as it was starting to list to one side. That Cypress tree has been there for 250 years and they are trying to help it a little to hopefully get another 50 years out of it.
I've seen pictures taken on that spot from the early 1900's and the tree looks the same as it does here, it's impressive.
