Do you mean the shutter button did not activate the shutter when you pressed it?

silly question, but it wasn't just a long exposure was it?

To continue the sillyness, these came into my mind:
- Mirror lockup is on
- Timer is on

When did it respond ? 2 seconds later, 20 seconds later, an hour later ???

Does it happen for every picture you shoot or just the ones you tried to take in the office ? What was the light like at the time ? What shooting mode were you in ?

OK...

1. It responded like 2 seconds after I press the shutter button.

2. It happened for some pictures only... not all of them.

3. The light condition is natural light from the windows. It's sunny outside.

4. I was using M mode.

If I remember correctly on the 20d i had some focusing problems with my 24-70L.... a couple of times it happened. It also happened on my 5d recently but has not happened since.

My suggestion is to reset ALL of the camera settings and make sure your contacts on the lens and camera are clean. There should be a menu setting for clearing the settings. Can't hurt anything.

Does it happen at all with your 50mm?

My 20D does the same thing with the Tamron lens. One day during a shoot it locked up. I tried everything I could think of. When I took the lens off and re-installed it, it started working. I moved the auto focus to the * button on the back and that helped. I think its a focusing problem.

Just to add.. If your lens is set to the AF mode, then the camera will attempt to find the correct focus. If the lens is set to MF mode, then it's up to you to focus it... (The AF/MF will be on the lens, not on the camera).

In AF mode, normally, you'll see the active square(s) in the viewfinder blink red and you'll hear a beep when focus is achieved. The camera will not fire until this happens.

Normally this autofocus occurs almost instantly.... but... If the ambient light is low, or there isn't enough contrast in what you're shooting, the camera will struggle to find focus. This will cause a delay ranging from a fraction of a second to 1 or more seconds.

Try point the camera at a featureless clear blue patch of sky and squeeze the shutter release. You'll see the same effect you saw in your office.
