And boy...a couple of them look very mischievious. They are pretty small right now and full of energy and I have (admitedly) had some fun photographing them. Their home is deep inside this 60+ year old Manitoba Maple. This is the exact same hole where I took photos of a young squirrel last year and posted in my 1000th post on this Forum.

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=123731

You can expect more shots of these little ones in the days ahead as I have been shooting them for several days now off and on. I have many different poses with 1,2,and 3 squirrels in the hole looking out at me etc...All comments and critiques are welcome.

The first shot is with a Canon 350 ( XT) and a Canon 200mm F2.8L at ISO 200 F4.5, 1/50 sec using the window ledge to help with support.

The remaining shots are taken with a Canon 30D and 400mm F5.6 and tripod mounted at ISO 320 and 500 with apertures of F5.6 and 8 and shutter speeds of 1/125 sec to 1/160 sec.

This little mischief maker on the left pulled the skinny green branch and just about hit his sibling in the face with it but he/she ducked into the tree:lol:

Great litle animals.

Must be lots of fun to observe and photograph. Most of the critters where I live either bite or sting! (or fly away!!)

Thanks for posting.

PS My kids said to say they were "cute."

TOOOO cute...but I am confused...is this an inter-racial nest? those squirlies...look different or is that first one just the "blacksheep" of the family? It's funny how the second one's feet look so big like a puppy's. Can't wait to see more.

My understanding is that Black Squirrels and Gey Squirrels are the same species with different coloring. The mother is black but earlier in the spring she had quite a bit of grey in her and I thought she was getting old. There are 4 babies in the nest and 2 are grey and 2 are black. I will post some soon with as many as three in the same shot. Thanks for the comment:D

Beautiful shots! Those little critters are really cute (although not as cute as their european cousins ;-)a )
