Hawaii Lens Question

I'll be going to Hawaii (North of Kona) for my brother's wedding in June. I'd like to have a nicer lens than my kit while I'm there, so I'm looking into renting...finances being as they are...something to put on my 350D. From my research I'd gather a wide angle would give me the most mileage. I just wondered what you all thought I should see about getting my hands on. Thanks!

You may need 2 or 3. I'd say a canon 10-22 and a 24-105 would be a good start. Or add a 3rd 70-200 if you really want to be prepared.

For scenery yes, but not for a wedding. Standard zooms and short telephoto coverage will be better for portraits. Wide angles are fun, and I live in wide angle world when I travel, but I think capturing the wedding will be as important as capturing the scenery.

I don't think I'll be shooting the wedding being best man and all. :) I should get plenty of opportunity at the reception though. This will be my first trip with more of a camera than a P&S.

So you are not shooting the wedding but need lens(es) to shoot tourist shots of Hawaii. I dont know what is available or how many you can afford but I would take at least a wide zoom(like 10-22, 16-35L, or 17-40L), a fast prime (like 35L or 50 1.4) and a tele zoom (like 70-200, 70-300, 100-400).

Get a 10-22 for the wide and a 17-55 F/2.8 IS for everything else.
