Advantage of ISO expansion on 20D?

Are there advantages/disadvantag​es to setting the ISO setting to on - on the 20D?

The advantage is the ability to get a shot that might not otherwise be possible in low light situations. I don't know why they don't just make it standard. Noise levels might be an issue for some, but a noisy image is better than no image at all when push comes to shove.

Crank up the ISO for low light shots. Like in gyms and badly lit places...

Superdiver, I got that part figured out, I just couldn't understand why 3200 wouldn't be on the standard selection list without modifying custom functions, as if there was some reason someone wouldn't want it on the list to begin with...?

because if you shoot at 3200 your shots with be so grainy its not even funny, even at 1600, if your shooting night shots outside, and u look at the black sky or anything else close to black, its pretty grainy, and it would just be 2x worse at 3200, so thats why i think they dont have it as one of the listed ones.i have a 30D and i dont even know how to get it up to 3200, but 1600 is too grainy for me, so i wouldnt want to even TRY to shoot at 3200.....but thats just me

Use the custom function 8, switch it to postioin 1 - ON, this will allow ISO 3200 on the 30D.

Guess you never shot Tmax 3200 or Konica 3200

ISO 1600 and 3200 are very usable on the 20D and 30D. If you want them smooth, get neat image or noise ninja.

There isnt a way to up the ISO on the 350D is there?

I have to disagree with Aliasman. You can very much get acceptable pictures at 3200 (below is an example). Of course you have to run some noise reduction. I agree with the others who say that 3200 should be available by default. There is no need to turn it off, just don't use it if you don't want to.

I agree, I have used 3200 with noise ninja and captured images that would be impossible otherwise. I was the photographer at an IKF kickboxing event and captured fight photos in a dimly lit room with only 4 spot lights on the ring. ISO 3200, f3.5, 1/125 to capture some movement but not be blurry. Flash is not allowed during any fight (kickboxing or boxing). The images were then corrected in noise ninja and most of the fighters purchased prints because no one is allowed cameras in any fight except for the event photog. I wouldnt recommend doing larger than 8x10 or myabe 11x14 uncropped with ISO 3200 though.

so this means i'm going to have to learn how to use my Photoshop CS2 or get that noise ninja program??

i'm not a computer guy but i guess i'll have to do it haha
