It seems my exposure lock is not working, but chances are it is me. No matter what I do (and I read the manual) I can not get exposure lock to work. I tried changing the custom functions and no luck. No matter what I do I never get the * in the viewfinder. It seemed to work on AE Lock/AF (custom function) and it seemed to work (holding shutter halfway to lock AF and then hit * to focus) but the * never showed in the viewfinder.

Any ideas? Is there another setting I need to change?

What I want to be able to do (if it is possible) is lock the expose or say the sky then recompose the shot, focus and shoot. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

In it's standard mode, you should be able to lock the exposure with the * key, then recompose and focus using the shutter button. I just tried it with mine and it worked fine. Once you hit the * key, it will light up inside the viewfinder on the bottom left and stay lit until you shoot.

Try setting your your CF #4 to "0" and see if that works.

Make sure that you are in one of the Creative Zone modes. There is no AE lock option in the Basic modes.
