You are lucky it is only the adapter tube you need to buy.

Try lensmate (external link). Half the price of Canon's tube, topnotch quality.

I'll confirm Bottombracket's testimony. I have both, a lensmate adapter and LA-DC58B, and I much prefer the lensmate. The Canon adapter has some play in it, while the lensmate is extremely snug...go figure.

So basically this adapter protects the lens right? Any other primary/secondary uses?

Yeah, I got fingerprint smudges already on my lens. I just keep it there for I might scratch permanenty the lens if I clean it - which is more a serious problem.

Not a good Idea to leave smudges.
Fingerprits contain acids, which can attack coatings.

Get a lens brush to remove ALL dust ( it can be abrasive.)
Use lens cleaning fluid on a tissue ( not directly on the lens)
Lightly polish with a microfibre cloth.

There are some more modern lens cleaning materials out there.
But to get clear pictures into the future you need a clean lens.

The problem is we have to import them into the uk as no one stocks them. Postage from the USA is not Good for the pocket.

Pity no one imports a few and sells them on.

If shipping + cost of the Lensmate is nearly equal to the cost of the Canon, I would go for the Lensmate. It's that good.

How about if they have the same price (cost+tax+shipping):D

Adapter is a "must"? Can somebody tell me how it will work? Never used adapter before.... Thanks!

All an adapter does is hold a tele or wideangle lens or close up or filter or lens hood, it also protects the lens body of the lens, and lens if you put a lens cap on. when not in use.
All in all it does little itself, but extends the usefulness of the camera, by supporting other accessories.

oh, i'll pass for now... i'll just be careful not to touch the lens and "always" remember to remove the cap before turning my camera "on". I always forget to remove the cap when I'm an a hurry resulting the lens pushing the cap outward by itself. I think it's not that too much pressure but still, it's a blocking that in the long run, it might cause my lens to malfunction. I hope it makes sense:D

Perhaps an obvious comment, but you can also put a UV filter on on the adapter to protect the front lens element as well. With this on at all times, you're much less likely to get fingerprint smudges or even dust on the more expensive and difficult to replace Canon lens. It's by no means a necessity, but having that extra protection is comforting. I'm beginning to sound like an insurance salesman...sorry
