Perhaps an obvious comment, but you can also put a UV filter on on the adapter to protect the front lens element as well. With this on at all times, you're much less likely to get fingerprint smudges or even dust on the more expensive and difficult to replace Canon lens. It's by no means a necessity, but having that extra protection is comforting. I'm beginning to sound like an insurance salesman...sorry

I strongly recommend using an adapter & UV filter. Had both on a G3 I loaned a friend. It came back with a 1/4 inch deep scratch on the UV filter. I'll gladly replace a UV filter over a lens any day. Sophia, sometimes being careful doeasn't always work but hey ... it's only money and you only have to replace a discontinued item!

I just had my Canon G6 and one of my problems now is that I always accidentally smudge my lens with my fingers. I don't want to clean with my shirt for I might scratch the lens, so I just leave it there.

The thing is that I just checked my pictures and I can see the smudges. Do I need an adapter so that I can't touch the lens? What's a UV filter? How this things works? Sorry but I don't have any slight idea how it works. I live near to the beach and one of the problems too is that dirt is just all over my lens. Gracias.

I think you can only buy them from the US website.
Or, check eBay for a used one near you.

Best regards,
Andy

it's probably too late for me to post this.. but you ought to check out lensmate online. that's where i bought my adapter. it fits nice and snug.. so even when i mount my telephoto lens on the G6.. it's nice and firm.. plus cheaper than the original canon one.

EDIT: i just noticed that you are located in UK. Lensmate online is located in Oregon or Settle in US.
