Here are some photos I took of a performance by the Kalabharathi School of Dance at a recent event. They performed in a theater, so all of the lights were dimmed, but the stage was pretty well lit. No flash photography was allowed during their performance, so myself and one other photog were the only ones shooting away. The other photog was shooting with a 5D/EF 24-105 f/4L combo. All shots were taken with my 1D MkI/EF 24-70 f/2.8L combo in mode=Av priority, Av=f/4, ISO=1000. Photos were processed thru Noise Ninja & PS7.

If interested to learn more about this school check them out at this website:

Very nicely done. It's too bad that a couple of dancers were hidden in the first photo.

These are very nice. The only thing about them that bothers me is the backdrop covers only part of the images. This is a common problem. I try to move to where the backdrop either covers the whole frame, or shoot closeups from the side so the background is completely black. I realize that sometimes you're limited as to where you can shoot from.

yeah... if only i didn't get there late, i might have had more time to get a better angle. I was able to get right up to the stage at one point, but again, I wasn't looking to be rude by blocking the view of other spectators. Thanks for the great comments.

Actually, I kinda like the combination of the colored backdrop and the black area without the backdrop; it balances the shadows on the dancers.

But that's just me...
