interesting... I've never wondered that.

Did you come up with an answer?

You can do that on 20D too. I don't turn on the quick control dial to select af point. I use the joystick.

Yeah-- I usually have it either off, or on 2 seconds for a quick peep. I have the preview button on the center of the thumb wheel, so a more careful study is only a thumb away...

It doesn't consume me, lol, but for me, learning & working in the film only world, weening myself off the chimp brought me back to my particular "center".

Eveyones different. I don't focus with the * button for example, lol.

I do that too. It's great. I wish my EOS3 had that for the 11 point mode (CF)! Although, I'm lucky that the eye control works great for me. Works great for most, but others not so much. I keep it set to 11 points and it's very reliable.

I'd *sorta* like to see 11 point eye control in my next DSLR. The 45 point is just too much.

That's just dumb. Let's keep this at an adult level. I don't ever use my built in flash either, but I'm not gonna break it off.

Like anything, you can damage it, if you put it through enough. The camera isn't that fragile, but my screen on my older cameras is just as suspectable if i slam the back into a surface. The cameras are built to take a certain amount of beating, but sometimes you might face problems.

So far, i've kept my body in good condition(one scratch) and i run, jump around with it, doing the photo journalism stuff... It's all about paying attention to the gear.

And if you are worried, there are screen protectors out there.... I think its a good enchancement, but should people buy just because of the screen? No way. Photography is about having the eye and the tools complimenting you. But yes, a screen is a good way to check if you get time(not after every shot though) to make sure you covered bases.

For me, doing photo journalism, when i go back to people to ask them their name, it comes in handy, to be able to play back and ask "who's this?" It's come in handy more than once, rather than having to chase down the exact person(if they had a supervisor who could tell me the same info).

Hey, Ron... where did your 20D go to? I missed the thread where you decided on a 30D.

Your gear list still says 20D, so you kept one then.
My grip from you is going without fault of course.

I can't wait, going to upgrade to the 30D from the 300D. I think I'm about ready for the big time.

Thanks for looking!

That big LCD is exactly what I don't like. Just encourages chimping, spectator chimping, and lights up the photogs face in low light situations. Not to mention batteries.

As a working photographer, I'm pretty hard on my gear. Seems like the bigger screen is more easily damaged.

To each his own...

You can turn the LCD off so it does not light up everytime a picture is taken and then you must manually chimp. This is what I do. Saves battery power also.

Yup, still have what was my "main" 20D. Had too many clicks to get a decent amount from it. I was gonna get a new 30D, but I found an ever so slightly used one, like new, with the grip, for less than a new body only, so obviously, I took it.
