You can turn the LCD off so it does not light up everytime a picture is taken and then you must manually chimp. This is what I do. Saves battery power also.

There is another option: after taking a photo just press the shutter button again (half way) and the display is no longer on.

Battery life is better than on the 20D, and besides, I have plenty of batteries to last quite some time.

This is the method that I usually take since my finger is on the button anyway.

Thanks for looking!

Glad your happy with it Ron, but it's funny you mentioned iso 1250 and 1000, on mine I've seen no change of shutter speed between them and ISO 800, So why shot there? Maybe it's just mine. Good luck and enjoy.

Depends on how harsh or low the light is. Sometimes it's a drastic change.

A couple of my first shots from the 30D. I'm thinking that the AF is indeed more accurate, as I seem to be getting noticeably sharper shots from the same lenses at the same settings (no it's not picture styles..I shoot RAW). Very pleased with this baby.

Cool shot of the old hometown...I still own a house about 300 yards out of the frame to your left on the far shore. I sure do miss the Susquehanna.

I'm about 25-30 minutes from there, but I go past that bridge at least 2 or 3 times a week. Nice area, for sure. Gotta love the scenery around here.

I've been waiting to upgrade my 10D to a 30D, and I think this thread pushed me over the top. I'm going to the camera store as soon as I finish this post. Anyway, I'm not familiar with the term "chimp", other than Tarzan's campanion. Can tell me exactly what you are referring to?

Thanks

Looking at your shots on the LCD after you take them...every time. "Oooh! Ahh!" (chimp)

Yeah, I leave my lcd off. If I have to check a tricky exposure, or check the histogram, I pop it on for a second, but not otherwise, really. I don't have a habit of peeking. Only when I'm not sure.

I do that too. It's great. I wish my EOS3 had that for the 11 point mode (CF)! Although, I'm lucky that the eye control works great for me. Works great for most, but others not so much. I keep it set to 11 points and it's very reliable.

I'd *sorta* like to see 11 point eye control in my next DSLR. The 45 point is just too much.

I actually miss the 45 points. I had an EOS 3 and just loved it. I have the 5D and the 30D and I would love for those camera's to have the 45 point autofocus. But as long as I'm dreaming, I would love a firmware update to the 5D that would make it 8 FPS. (as long as I'm dreaming).

This one is a very Sopranoesque pic; big black car, parked under a bridge, down by the river, in NY...

Glad to hear your liking it, it really helps me justify the move to that instead of the 20D.
