as I said, some people are really lucky....OCEANVIEW - well I had no choice since I do commercial work, everything needed to be medium format quality, a hassleblad back or even an aptus back is out of the question for me, so I am such a canon dude ever since I started, 1DsMkII was my answer, oh well......I would love to get a 1 gig that would pay as much as Cliff is getting....

Cliff, mind if you post your website? Thanks bud...

If you read his posts, you'd see he has one guy shooting video, one girl getting things for scrap book, and him shooting photos.

He sounds like a reasonable guy - from the sounds of things, he's being hired as an accomplished filmer (is that a word?) but the clients have seen samples of his photography and are chancing their arm and paying him for that as well, lucky? Yes, but often it's the very people who complain bitterly about trolls, who are quick to criticise, or poke fun at people who aren't trolling - just trying to get an honest answer.

Would I shoot a wedding (even though I do know about gear, lenses, DOF, etc)? No, because I know my limitations - I'd want to get at the very least a good few weddings under my belt as an assistant (something I'm trying to sort out), but it's no reason to take it out on a guy who's willing to chance his arm.

I'm a bit sceptical, least to say. I mean, It's true that the guy seems honest but his questions are so weird that it makes the whole story barely credible.

If he is very skilled at shooting videos, then will he not shoot the wedding himself? He will be shooting pictures while someone else will take the video cam??? And he has never covered a wedding before as a tog!? Sounds like pure suicide to me! I wouldn't take the responsibility of shooting a wedding without any knowledge, especially with a brand new 1DS that I don't know at all!

OP, if you still read this: do not take pictures of that wedding! Stick to video if that's what you're good at. Leave photography to a pro. Or even better: outsource this assignment to a real wedding photographer for a grand or 2, and you will make more profit than if you had bought a 1DS (plus, you will make the bride much happier!).

Sound advice that! Hire a pro, save money, and concentrate on the video - sounds like a plan!

Since it is your first time and if you do partake in it, right up a written agreement that covers all your bases that they can sign, so they wouldnt' come after you if you screw up, which is a possibility, with having no wedding photography experience.

Actually, I could see that a wedding photog would need a weather sealed setup - you can't guarantee what the weather will be like if you have to do outdoor shots - even if the subjects are sheltered under a canopy - the photo may not be able to.

There have been tens of thousands of photographers for decades who have shot weddings without sealed cameras very successfully, including medium format (including me) where even the joint between the eye level prism and body is not sealed, nor is the joint between the film magazine and body. I think someone could get by reasonably based upon that small sampling of experience in the photographic community.

I read his posts but I must have missed the part specifying who is doing what.

hire a pro and pocket the money. Then take the bride's wedding party out for drinks and see if you get lucky.

just a quick comment...
MK II will be less noizy at ISO 800 than 20D at ISO 200 so you can speed up your lenses..
I'm waiting for release of MK III so I can get a better deal on MKII

I guess I'll move to a new post cos I have lots of questions now.

Between Houston, PC Connection and B&H, I have three 20Ds, eleven lenses, AND a 1Ds Mark II (had to play) and enough batteries and memory to run the starship Enterprise and back up all their computers!

I'm good with the 20D so I plan in using it for the shooting. I have enough lenses to keep a diff lens on each body so I don't have to change lenses and I'm taking someone to help me juggle all that extra equipment. It'll be fun to do something I've not done before...I won't be bored.

We have test shots scheduled at the wedding locations and I expect to print some stuff to show them before the wedding day.

Someone asked about my WEB site...

Again, thanks for all the help.

There is no offense if none is taken.
