They're both equally nice actually. If I had to have only one of them on my 40D, I'd pick the 24-70 too.

Here's one from Cambodia, I had this lens attached to my camera pretty much for the whole trip.

Not as sharp as my primes, but it had the right focal length for everything. Well worth the weight, you get used to it!
