That's funny... I just pulled up each lens sample thread and saw the same pic in both. I was wondering the same thing. Which lens?

LOL, wow, usually I'd say the images are too small to tell, but in this case, that's just crazy....Mine is sharp through the range.

here's what I was talking about.

I'm at work, so I don't have much to work with as far as testing, but this was the logo on a photocopier.

ISO was at 400

I got it from Adorama. In the past, I had bought a refurb 40D, and it was horrible, but they were great about sending me a packing label for it, and promptly sent me a replacement.

I'm debating whether to try sending it back to them for a replacement, or try sending it to Canon. I'd get the replacement from Adorama faster than if I sent it to Canon for their 7-10 business day turnaround.

I just packed it up and sent it off back to Adorama for an exchange. hopefully the replacement will be MUCH better.

I wouldn't waste my time at repair service... Just get a better copy, You'll be happy you did. I have stories upon stories I could tell you about repair with that lens...

Ultimately, the lens will be sharper at one point or the other.. Mine is tack sharp at 70mm and it does weaken when I zoom back wide... not this bad, but I think it's a common problem with zooms.. at least for Canon. Their QC isn't very good IMO..

I eventually went halves with a friend on the Lens Align Pro and it fixed my problems incredibly well. I'm a huge fan now. That after it came back from factory service with an unacceptable adjustment... Only thing about the Lens Align tool is that your body must have the capability to do micro adjusting. Once it's dialed in.. you're pretty much good to go though. :)

Hope that helps a wee bit...

My latest couple of loves...

Wow thats a bad copy indeed. Yes i too would just exchange it. Theres no reason why you should spend 1200 dollars on a new lens and then have to fix it.

Hope your next one comes in nice and sharp. Keep us posted.

Can someone post 100% crops of photos for this lens, if possible red roses. I just got mine back from Canon to be repaired "calibrated" and it still looks a little soft. I seem to be having a heck of time when it comes to close ups of red roses when I was doing some test shots. I am hoping maybe I am being a little too critical of the lens.

Thanks,

Richard
