Still can't decide between this and the 24-105. I understand the Pro's and Con's.
Why not rent both and try them out for yourself?

There is a reason why it costs more than other, simular lenses. Because it's worth it. It will pay you back in so many ways once you own it. I just wish I had bought it sooner! And one of my all time favorite 24-70L images of mine. Its a lot of lens and it's worth every penny! You won't ever be sorry you bought it. Chas Gordon

I snapped the front truck on my skates that have the same plates as your wifes and I wasn't happy with the replacement trucks. I lost some speed. I'm no roller derbiest by a long shot. I have the Riedell 172 OG skates. Did I mention "nice shots"! Wow, you really snapped a metal truck? That's amazing. She upgraded to these skates because her old ones had plastic trucks. I'll keep an eye out for any wear on them. Canon EOS 40D | Canon 24-70mm 2.8L | Canon EF 50mm II f1.8 | Speedlite 580EX II | Canon BG-E2N Grip | Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home

I was worried about the weight of the lens and the non-IS, but it's seriously not a problem at all. I'm still learning and getting used to this lens. I'm loving it!!!

And here's from the 24-70 @f/2.8:
But I think the 24-70 really excels at a closer range:
I don't have anything quite matching with the 24-105 at hand immediately. Tony

Well, in low light this lens has an f/2.8 aperture, but beyond that low light performance is probably more about the sensor. A faster lens can give you a faster shutter speed, but the IQ comes from the sensor. Tony
