Curious...do you think it was the camera, or have you micro adjusted your present camera?...those shots you just posted are lovely!

Meaning your 5D2, or a 5D Classic? Is it the same lens you are using now?

...... Canon may produce newer version which will blow away this current model, and then i want one, anyone want to buy my lens?
It is great and i never regret it and had some winner shots with it on all bodies from 350D up to 1DsIII.

I'll believe that, I had the same problem with my original copy. I didn't know any better at the time, my newer copy is much better. (UT vs UV)

Use live view and manual focus(tripod mounted camera, f stop wide open!) on a ruler or yard stick laying on a table or othe flat suface- maybe 10-20 feet away. Put the best focus at a specific inch or foot mark. Review the shot. If it is spot on, go to multiple objects on the table. Use the viewfinder and repeat the process by using manual focus. Progress to auto focus but use a single spot instead of the pattern modes. Make sure you are not using AI servo.
This might tell you if there is a difference between manual or auto. If you have two bodies and a couple of lenses, swap them around to verify where the problem lies.
I once had a strange problem and it turned out to be a dirty contact on the body. Go for simple solutions first :)
