Is it me or is the depth of field a little too shallow and the back two people are a little out of focus?

You are definitely right!
I take full responsibility to tell you that the DOF is definitely too thin! One of my biggest mistakes was forgetting to close my aperature down while upping my iso to compensate. With every mistake comes a learning opportunity!

How much did your VAL cost ? Looks like a foreign model you got there. How is the cost of a foreign model over a domestic one? Was it hard to program your VAL to your voice commands?

VALs are free if you feed them dinner. Luckily for me, we were at a potluck at a family friend's house. :D

I like the way you lite this shot. I also like the way you took a behind the scene shot. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Since it's summer and I've got a break from nursing, I've decided to shoot a bit more!

We had an impromptu photoshoot yesterday at a family dinner. Luckily for me, I brought my camera case (Storm im2600) with me. I also brought a 4'-9' boom and a small 32" eclipse umbrella.

Certainly sounds impromptu to me!

Great lighting. Thanks for the explanation, too.

A little crop and a bit of PP.

*I know this image could have benefited from some fill flash. I still like it. : )

I really love this lens. Had it for a few weeks now and it has treated me fine. I have a studio and use it indoor with strobes and outside with natural light. It's fast and I have not regretted not having IS, at least for my applications. I carry my tripod on my Canon backpack so if I need to be stable its there. :D

Great lens though. I was torn between this and the 1.2, but I am glad I chose this. The bokeh in portraits is super creamy. I do want the 1.2 though in the future. My next purchase is a FF body.. possibly a 1dsmkii because of tight budgeting. Right now I am using the L on a crop body and it does fine. Thankfully at the studio I do have a long room where my muslin and lighting is so I have room to back up and move or pop the tripod up.

It's a great lens. Has not left my camera in weeks. Well I threw on the kit lens the other evening for kicks and didn't like it. Spoiled?

As found at La Jolla Cove in California.

This one needed surprisingly little post-processing.

I had to clean this one up a bit in LightRoom because it has a bit of flare in the middle. Still a bit evident, and too bad, actually.

From that same area in La Jolla Cove, but no flare. The tripod was accidentally on a plane home, or else this one would have been with an ND filter.

This one could use a bit of PP to remove the haze in the distance, or it can be left alone as an accurate rendition of the way that part of the coast often is.

Just a few shots taken whilst visiting the Botanical Gardens in Montreal earlier today. It rained for most of the day, which is unfortunate. I would have liked to gotten a few more captures. :(

Does that pic look saturated to the point of no detail or is my comp screen just messed up?

Looks well oversaturated to me - and at least my laptop's screen has been calibrated...
